What is ReiKi

usui

What is it ? How does it work ?

The System of healing using Reiki is an already recognized method (mainly in the West) and acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the method of supporting conventional academic medicine. It is a non-intrusive method of revitalizing the body of a healthy person or someone in the process of rehabilitation, with vital energy. It puts the person into a state of deep relaxation, helps remove energy and emotional blockages, removes toxins from the organism, reduces pain of different origins. Assists a wide range of therapies in both severe as well as chronic illness.

Moreover, unlike in our country, all recognized so-called “alternative medicine methods” are refunded by health-insurance funds. Funds allocated to unconventional methods of healing, in USA only, annually exceed the amount of 27 billion dollars. In large hospitals that apply "Integrated Medicine", that is a combination of conventional and unconventional methods, the positions of managers of appropriate departments, are held by representatives of alternative medicine. There are even special training sessions organized in the field of unconventional therapies. (for example check here: Hartford Hospital ). More examples can be obtained by writing the words: integrative medicine/therapies in the search engine. Results are really surprising. However in the vast majority they relate to western countries.

Unfortunately, the Inhabitants of our country can not, at the moment, count on such conveniences. But let us hope, that soon enough common sense will prevail, with the benefit to everyone

A bit of history:

The name Reiki consists of two words of Japanese origin:
Rei and Ki. A literal translation is quite difficult, due to the ambiguity of these words. Depending on the context and the country of appearing, these words have the following meanings:

Rei : God, Spirit, the Absolute, the Higher Intelligence, Higher Self, The Ancient Cosmic Energy, Brahmaprana, Shiva Shiakti.

Ki : Prana, Life energy, the bioenergy, the source of life, the healing power, the intellect, permeating everything that lives.

The most commonly found translations of the word ReiKi are: the Divine Energy of healing, the Divine Love, the Divine Light, the Heavenly Rain of healing, Spiritual healing, the Energy of the Spirit, Healing with the power of the Holy Spirit, the Universal Life Energy, the healing power of Love.

We can simply say that it is a method of Spiritual healing by laying on of hands, fingers, by blowing out, looking at the areas of the body which require energy, mental influence and voice (positive suggestions). It can be applied not only on people but also on animals and on plants.
Reiki is an energy that has its own Spiritual Intelligence, so that it can not be overdosed or transferred insufficiently. Once initiated with a mental intention, it flows until the recipient’s energy level stabilizes. A Reiki practitioner is not a healer in the sense of bioenergy therapists, who use their own energy. He/She is merely a channel through which the Divine Energy flows and for this purpose he was attuned in the process of initiation. Before every session he/she prays to the Highest Intelligence for support and the ultimate benefit of the receiving person and ends it with words, "Let not mine, but Your Will be done". Because in case of Reiki, the Highest Being is the healer.

Distance energy transfer is an advanced method, in which distance, time, space, or material objects between the Reiki therapist and a person in need are not an obstacle and do not diminish its effectiveness, thanks to the use of special Symbols - Keys,.

A different, for some even unpleasant, way of applying Reiki, is assisting the dying (unfortunately The Highest Intelligence has not yet granted immortality to anybody on this Earth) in the transition to the Light. Reiki, as the Energy of Love, facilitates an easier Exit , in peace, with the soul filled with love. It is also possible to help those who deceased earlier. Regardless of when it happened, using special techniques, it is possible to send the energy to Other Dimensions as well .

Reiki is also applicable (both directly as well as over a distance), in purifying of and protecting people, houses, factories, farms, food etc. even machines, cars and communication tracts (example: before planned trips) against any actions of negative energies or beings.

Reiki is a Universal Energy permeating the entire Universe and everything that exists in it. At the same time it is neutral, attributed to none of the religions, although used in the past by Great Spiritual leaders, among them Buddha, Jesus Christ, and their followers.

In ancient times it was known under the names of : Energeia (Greece), Mana (Havaii Kahuna), Ruah (Izrael), Vril, Orgon (Western Europe)

The roots of the method can be traced back to 3000 years b.c. and originate from spiritual traditions of India and Tibet (yoga, ayurveda, tantra). From there it spread to the lands of Eurasia, the Asia Minor and Africa (Egypt), known under local names. But one and the same teaching of Ever Permeating Energy of the Universe prevailed.

Centuries of studies and experiments, conducted by the greatest philosophers and priests, created fantastic potential of the method among people. Unfortunately some of that potential is unattainable for us today. Apart from the already mentioned transfer of energy over a distance also telepathic transmissions, even the control of weather. To achieve this Symbols = Keys, created (?), or received from Higher Beings (?) enabled activating and steering of energy, by knowledgeable persons. Only a few possessed access to the deepest secrets of the method, those who acquired the knowledge of passing of attunements to their successors.

Unfortunately through the ages, as a result of different events: such as wars, epidemics, falls of entire civilizations, the lineage was broken. No one, empowered with the attunement knowledge, who could continue the advanced forms of work with the energies - survived. Of course certain lineages continued in places of seclusion: monasteries, temples or hermitages. However they were used for cult ceremonies only. For lay people, the road to the method was closed for many centuries to come.

until the time of …

dr Mikao Usui

U He was born on 15th of August 1865 in the Gifu district in Japan. As a 4 year old boy he was sent to a Monastery School at the Tendai church in Kyoto by his parents. He stayed there for a few years. In subsequent time he was meditating in Places of Power, on the Holy Kurama Mountain. He also studied Japanese form of QiGong, named Ko-Ki, and effectively applied its techniques to healing those in need. He studied ancient Buddhist, Indian and Tibetan temple manuscripts, written mainly in the Sanskrit, and its Tibetan variety and some even in Chinese. And it was in the field of ancient Buddhist literature that he obtained his PhD University Degree. He was particularly interested in ancient methods of healing, especially cases of Miraculous Cures he found in literature, performed by the Great Religious Prophets , i.e. of Buddha, Jesus and their followers. Contrary to the versions of his biographies popular in the West and created mainly for mundane purposes, he never went to India, Tibet. Even less so to the United States (Chicago), where he allegedly was supposed to study. He also had nothing to do with Christians, except maybe for some chance encounters with missionaries or reading of the Bible. He remained faithful to the Buddhist tradition until the end of his life.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Dr. Usui formulated a system of natural healing called Ryoho (i.e.ReiKi). He based it on ancient books in which, during his detailed studies, he found encoded contents about initiation techniques and symbol-keys. The Symbol-Keys were related through their graphical forms to the Chinese writing and Japanese calligraphy (Kanji ). In spite of his acquired theoretical knowledge, Dr. Usui was not able to make use of the full potential of the symbols he discovered, because the important lineage of initiation was lost. He received the Miraculous Gift after 21 days of solitary meditation and fasting (he lived only on water) on the holy Kurama Mountain. Every day from a small mound of 21 stones he was throwing away one. On the last day, during deep meditation he experienced a flow of powerful blinding bright energy of Reiki on the top of his head and “Third Eye”. He also saw, bright Symbols - Keys floating up in space around the area where he meditated,. While he admired the Symbols, the intelligent energy caused the attuning of his energy channels - the Initiation. In this way the lineage of Reiki Attunement was re-established.

For the following 7 years Mikao Usui was healing people who came to him from poor districts, treating this as a specific show of gratitude to the Divine Power for the gift of healing and also acting in accordance with the Buddhist principle of Compassion. However after many years he concluded that for the majority of people he helped, in spite of healing their physical problems, nothing has changed in their life for the better. He found a lack of willpower and willingness for positive change within them. So they have not been fully healed, due to their own ignorance and stagnation. They wasted their chance only because they did not appreciate the gift they received. Mikao Usui understood that healing without a charge wasn't appreciated. He acknowledged that the transmission of Reiki, should be come together with some form of exchange of energy. (analogously to laws of physics). The appropriate price, not necessarily in the monetary form, would benefit the recipient’s well being, because he would be relieved from obligations towards the healer. Usui particularly meant the recipient’s psychological attitude. Instead of considering a way of showing his gratitude, the receipient could undertake, without any more obligations, what was most beneficial for him.

Dr. Usui also decided to pass the Principles of conduct to his patients and followers, in order to speed up and strengthen the process of recovery, on all levels ( Body, Mind and Soul), He recommended everyday (morning and evening) contemplation of the following principles, created by the Meiji Emperor:

1. Just for today do not be angry
2. Just for today do not be worried
3. Just for today be grateful
4. Just for today work hard
5. Just for today be kind to others

In the next period he started healing and teaching the system of Reiki to those who intentionally wanted to change their life for the better and to elevate their spiritual level. He taught them how to heal themselves and others, and how to bring harmony into their lives and environment. During the great earthquake in 1921, together with his followers, Dr. Usui was helping with great dedication all people in need,. In 1922 he and his followers established the first Reiki clinic in Tokyo, then many more. On the whole, Mikao Usui trained around 2000 apprentices, among them about a dozen or so Reiki Teachers (Sensei) . Chujiro Hayashi was one of them and he took succession after Mikao Usui passed away to a Different Dimension on 09 of March 1926. One of Chujiro Hayashi’s apprentices, was Havayo Takata, an American woman of Japanese origin from Hawaii. She was healed with Reiki from cancer. She in turn brought the system of Reiki to the USA from where it found its way to Europe.

And - to our country- and is now also at your disposal.

Levels (Degrees) of Reiki

The First Degree (I) Through the process of initiation, chakra of the heart, chakra of the throat, chakra of the third eye, chakra of the crown become activated and attuned:. From then on the state of attunement persists indefinitely. For the rest of his/her life the trainee can pass the energy, by the laying on of hands, to all areas of the body that need energy, to the meridians and charkas. To him/herself as well as to others,

The Second Degree (II) –The Advanced level- During the next initiation ceremonies, chakras of the hand are activated and attuned. The apprentice additionally receives three Symbols - Keys, with which he/she can reinforce the flow of energy and send it over a distance in time and space. He/she learns a distant healing method and also some techniques of psychological and emotional relaxation.

The Third (III) and Fourth (IV) More energy centers become activated and attuned. The apprentice becomes familiar with the Master Symbol, called the Great Power of Radiating Brilliance. It triggers advanced changes (through the process of meditation with it), of inner development leading to the attainment of knowledge and skills essential for the process of Reiki Attunements. He/She achieves the degree of Reiki Teacher (Sensei).

It is necessary to mention at this point, that in the original Japanese Reiki School the title Sensei is used exclusively. Even Mikao Usui himself never allowed to be addressed in a different manner. Using the title “Master” (and even more the “Great Master”) while referring to self is ridiculed in Japan. The only acceptable usage of this word would be in addressing the Reiki therapist by someone satisfied with the effects of healing, particularly in case of a Miraculous Cure.

During recent years many new systems of healing emerged, that use the term Reiki as part of their name. For example, Egyptian, Tibetan, Karuna etc. where for marketing purposes, new symbols from different origins (sometimes invented) were added to the original Reiki symbols. These systems are not accepted by traditional Schools of Reiki but their effectiveness is still based on the traditional Keys. This unfortunately resembles, the marketing strategies of pharmaceutical concerns, mentioned by me earlier in the text.
